Jon Raz is the son of a first-generation American mother and an Israeli father. He grew up between Los Angeles and the Bay Area, and graduated from Pomona College with a bachelor of arts in art history and Spanish.
At Pomona, Jon volunteered for Pomona Valley Low-Income Services, where he provided legal, medical, and social service referrals for Latin American immigrants living in Los Angeles and San Bernardino Counties. He completed coursework at the University of Buenos Aires in 2007 and undertook independent research on modern architecture in Mexico City in 2008. His undergraduate thesis, which discussed the relationship between architecture, art, and politics in mid-century Mexico, received an award for distinction among art history theses submitted at the Claremont Colleges.
After a brief stint in the field of architecture, Jon switched professional gears and moved into the world of immigration law. He is interested in the intersection of criminal law and immigration law, LGBT immigration advocacy, and in fighting against the prolonged detention of non-citizens seeking immigration relief.
Jon spends his free time eating good food and spending time with his friends and family. He is an avid traveler, and has visited and lived in countries in Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. Jon speaks Spanish and Hebrew, and is the firm's supervising paralegal.
